What is the Linstow Art Award?

The Linstow Art Award (LAA) is an annual professional art award donated to three young artists who have graduated from the Master’s Program of the Art Academy of Latvia (LMA). Graduates also include artists who completed their studies at the LMA Master’s within a three-year period prior to the respective calendar year. Eligible programs are Visual arts, Visuals and plastic arts, Audio visual and media arts, Design (Functional, Fashion, Metal, Service design). The recipients are recognized for their outstanding artistic achievements.

Established in 2025, the Linstow Art Award is a collaboration between Linstow Baltic, a leading real estate developer in the Baltics, and the Art Academy of Latvia, aimed at providing a modern platform for emerging Latvian artists to launch and develop their professional careers. The award is part of Linstow Baltic’s long-term sustainability strategy, which integrates art and business into a shared platform to support talent development and the evolution of vibrant, creative urban spaces.

What is the mission of the Linstow Art Award?

The mission of the Linstow Art Award is to give long-term support to young Latvian artists, ensuring a stronger art community and a lasting presence of art in the city.

What does the award include?

The Linstow Art Award offers targeted financial and practical support during the initial stages of young artists' careers, including access to art studios and funding for materials. Each year, the program aims to support three of the most talented graduates of the Art Academy of Latvia’s master’s program.

Each Linstow Art Award winner receives:
- A monetary award of 3000 EUR (net amount);
- A one-year art studio space in creative SPORTA 2 quarter in Riga;
- The opportunity to exhibit artworks.

Who is eligible to apply for the Linstow Art Award?

Eligible applicants for the Linstow Art Award are graduates of the Master’s programs at the Art Academy of Latvia from the Departments of Visual Arts, Visual and Plastic Arts, Audiovisual and Media Arts, or Design. Applications are invited from both current students in the process of graduating and expected to obtain their degree in 2025, as well as artists who completed these programs in the past three years (in 2022, 2023, or 2024).

How many artists receive the Linstow Art Award each year?

Each year, three young artists are selected to receive the Linstow Art Award, recognizing their exceptional artistic achievements.

When is the application period for the Linstow Art Award 2025?

The application period for the 2025 Linstow Art Award is from May 6, 2025, to May 30, 2025.

How do I submit my application for the Linstow Art Award?

To apply for the Linstow Art Award, candidates must complete the online application form available on the official website (www.linstowartaward.lv) during the application period, which includes:
- Artwork concept description;
- Images of the artwork;
- Video introduction of the artist;
- CV;
- Artworks portfolio;
- Applicant’s details (name, surname, contact information, year of graduation, art program of studies at LMA, and an optional personal website or online portfolio).

How is the selection process conducted?

Submissions are assessed by an international jury composed of Latvian and foreign experts with experience in contemporary art, design, architecture, and cultural policy. The Jury evaluates the applications in a closed voting and then meet to discuss and deliberate the three winners of the award. Any decision of the Jury in relation to any matter relating to the LAA is final. Reasons will not be given for any such decision and the Jury will not enter into any correspondence regarding the merits of any submissions or decision.

What criteria are used for judging?

The jury selects three awardees based on the applicant’s submitted information and the following evaluation criteria:
- Previous work and future potential of the artist;
- Formal and thematic aspects of the artwork and the relationship between both;
- Craftsmanship in the execution of the artwork and technical skills.
- Relevance of the artwork’s message.

When will winners be announced?

The Linstow Art Award winners will be announced on the Art Academy of Latvia (LMA) Master’s graduation day and published on websites: www.linstowartaward.lv, www.linstowbaltic.lv and www.lma.lv.
The winner announcement date in 2025 is June 20. Dates for the following years shall be announced separately.
