Statutes of LinstowArt Award
1. GENERAL PROVISIONS
1.1. The Linstow Art Award (“LAA”) is an annual professional art award donated to three young artists who have graduated from the Master’s Program of LMA. Graduates also include artists who completed their studies at the LMA Master’s within a three-year period prior to the respective calendar year. Eligible programs are Visual Arts, Visual and Plastic Arts, Audio-Visual Media Arts, and Design. The recipients are recognized for their outstanding artistic achievements.
1.2. The mission of the LAA is to give long-term support to young Latvian artists, ensuring a stronger art community and a lasting presence of art in the city.
1.3. The LAA includes a monetary award of gross amount 3 515 EUR (three thousand five hundred fifteen euro) and one-year studio usage in the art studio premises in creative SPORTA 2 quarter, along with the opportunity to exhibit artworks in exhibitions.
1.4. The LAA shall be awarded once every year, at an award presentation ceremony to be held during the LMA Master’s graduation day.
1.5. The awarding project of the LAA shall be organized and coordinated by Linstow and LMA.
2. NUMBER AND AMOUNT OF LINSTOW ART AWARD
2.1. Three LAA winners shall be announced annually. The awardees of the LAA shall receive:
2.1.1. A monetary award of gross value 3 515 EUR (three thousand five hundred fifteen euro).
2.1.2. An art studio space in creative SPORTA 2 quarter (approximate area of 25m2), Riga, for one (1) year.
2.2. The source of funding for LAA is a donation from Linstow and/or other Linstow group companies. The monetary LAA award shall be of gross amount of 3 515 EUR (three thousand five hundred fifteen euro) per one awardee, and the total monetary award shall be of gross amount 10 545 EUR (ten thousand five hundred forty-five euro) per year.
2.2.1. The LAA and all expenses related to LAA shall be provided by Linstow and/or other Linstow group companies.
2.2.2. The LAA monetary award is paid by in cooperation with the LMA foundation “Tones fonds”, in relation to which separate agreements will be signed between “Tones fonds” and the respective Linstow group companies.
2.2.3. Provision of the art studio space in creative SPORTA 2 quarter, Riga, will be regulated by separate agreements between the LMA foundation “Tones fonds” and/or the LMA, the awardees and the respective Linstow group companies.
3. CANDIDATES AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
3.1. Students eligible to apply for the LAA must have successfully graduated from the LMA Master’s Program in Visual Arts, Visual and Plastic Arts, Audio-Visual Media Arts, or Design during the respective calendar year or the previous three-year period.
3.2. The LAA shall be awarded in recognition of LMA Master’s graduates achievements and artwork criteria:
3.2.1. Artistic and thematic features – concept and idea, content and form, and the readability and relevance of the message.
3.2.2. Creativity and originality of the artwork – idea, new methods, and individual vision.
3.2.3. Quality of the artwork and concept – idea, content, style, language, and related aspects.
4. THE LAA JURY
4.1. International experts of LAA jury (“Jury”), upon evaluating the LAA applicants’ achievements and their compliance with the requirements set forth in this Regulation, make a decision regarding the awarding of the LAA award.
4.2. The Jury consists of 5-7 experts on contemporary art and design. Members of the Jury are selected by Linstow. At least one Jury member is nominated by the LMA. Jury Leader is selected by Linstow.
4.3. The Jury makes the decision regarding the winners of the LAA according to the following procedures:
4.3.1. The Jury evaluates the applications through a closed vote and then meets to discuss and deliberate on the three winners of the LAA.
4.3.2. If the Jury cannot reach agreement regarding the LAA winners, the Jury Leader, under extraordinary circumstances, casts two votes after discussion with Linstow representatives.
4.3.3. Any decision of the Jury in relation to any matter concerning the LAA is final. Reasons will not be provided for any such decision, and the Jury will not enter into any correspondence regarding the merits of any submissions or decisions.
4.4. Linstow reserves the right to update or amend the Jury procedures at any time. Linstow will make reasonable efforts to ensure any update or amendment is indicated on the LAA website (www.linstowartaward.lv).
5. SUBMISSION FOR THE LAA
5.1. The LAA is announced on the LAA and LMA websites (www.linstowartaward.lv and www.lma.lv), as well as in the LMA informational materials for the funding program.
5.2. The announcement includes the requirements for applicants, the application procedure, the required documentation, the application deadline, and the submission address, as well as other relevant information necessary for the LAA competition process.
5.3. Detailed information about the competition and the competition regulations are available on the websites www.linstowartaward.lv and www.lma.lv.
6. APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR THE LAA COMPETITION
6.1. The dates for the announcement of the LAA competition, the application deadlines and other milestone dates for each calendar year shall be agreed separately in writing between Linstow and LMA.
6.2. To apply for the LAA competition, the applicant must complete the online application form, which includes:
6.2.1. Artwork concept description;
6.2.2. Images of the artwork;
6.2.3. Video introduction of the artist;
6.2.4. CV;
6.2.5. Artworks portfolio;
6.2.6. Applicant’s details (name, surname, contact information, year of graduation, art program of studies at LMA, and an optional personal website or online portfolio).
6.3. The application must be submitted electronically on the LAA website www.linstowartaward.lv.
6.4. The Jury, if necessary, has the right to request additional documents and information beyond those listed in section 6.2.
6.5. The contacts for questions about LAA application are listed on the LAA website www.linstowartaward.lv.
7. EVALUATION AND AWARD PROCEDURE
7.1. All submitted applications are evaluated by the Jury.
7.2. The decision of three LAA winners is made by the Jury, based on the information provided by the applicant and evaluation criteria:
7.2.1. Previous work and future potential of the artist;
7.2.2. Formal and thematic aspects of the artwork and the relationship between them;
7.2.3. Craftsmanship in the execution of the artwork, technical skills;
7.2.4. Relevance of the message of the artwork.
7.3. The LAA winners will be announced on LMA Master’s graduation day and published on websites: www.linstowartaward.lv and www.lma.lv. The winner announcement date shall be determined in accordance with section 6.1.
8. LINSTOW ART AWARD PAYMENT PROCEDURE
8.1. Three LAA awardees are awarded the LAA monetary award of 3 515 EUR (three thousand five hundred fifteen euro) and art studio rent in creative SPORTA 2 quarter in Riga for one year.
8.2. The LAA monetary award is paid based on the decision of the Jury.
8.3. The LAA monetary award shall be paid in a single lump sum within 30 days of the official LAA award ceremony.
8.4. The LAA art studio award to the LAA awardees is given for the period determined in accordance with section 6.1., by signing an agreement between the awardee and the respective Linstow group company. Dates for the following years shall be announced separately.
8.4.1. Approved LAA awardees must sign an agreement regarding the award with the respective Linstow group company within 10 (ten) working days of the award ceremony.
8.4.2. The keys to the art studio associated with the award are handed over to the three LAA awardees on the date determined in accordance with section 6.1.
9. COMMITMENTS EXPECTED FROM THE LAA CANDIDATES AND AWARDEES
9.1. By submitting an application for the LAA, the candidates agree and confirm that:
9.1.1. Linstow or any of its authorized representatives are granted a license to reproduce the artwork submitted as part of the application for the purpose of being displayed publicly online (for an indefinite period of time), and to display the artwork in the premises of LMA and/or in other public environment;
9.1.2. The name of the applicant can be used in connection with the display of the artwork;
9.1.3. The applicant is the sole holder of all copyrights associated with the artwork;
9.1.4. The artwork does not violate or infringe upon any third party’s rights, including their intellectual property rights;
9.1.5. The copyrights in the artwork have not been exclusively licensed, granted, or otherwise assigned and/or transferred to any third party for a period of 10 (ten) years after the date of application.
9.2. By submitting an application for the LAA, the candidates agree that they will have the following obligations if selected as the awardees of the LAA:
9.2.1. To participate in the LAA award ceremony;
9.2.2. To use the art studio space in accordance with the regulations provided in the agreement on the use of the art studio space, including:
9.2.2.1. Participate in art studio events organized at creative SPORTA 2 quarter, including exhibitions and other events that take place in the common space available for all LAA awardees, as well as in the art studio spaces designated for individual use of the LAA awardees;
9.2.2.2. Ensure that their artworks are available for display in creative SPORTA 2 quarter, as well as other premises of Linstow group companies;
9.2.2.3. Participate in other public relations events organized by Linstow.
9.3. The status of the LAA awardees may be revoked if it is determined that the LAA awardees have engaged in activities that violate the public order of Latvia or is involved in criminal conduct. In such cases, Linstow shall have the right to decide on the annulment of any benefits or recognition of the awardee.
10. FINAL PROVISIONS
10.1. The general public shall have access to these Statutes of LAA on the websites: www.linstowartaward.lv and www.lma.lv.
10.2. Amendments to the Statutes of the LAA can be made by an agreement between Linstow and LMA.
10.3. Any amendments of the Statutes of the LAA shall be published on the abovementioned websites.
